Hope in the Saviour

© 1996 Russell Dyer

I’m getting tired just by living
In a land in love with sin
Evil deeds are all around me
And evil thoughts lay deep within
Chorus:
But there’s hope in the Saviour
He can wash each sin away
Yes, there’s hope in the Saviour
If you turn to Him today

For many life is just expenses
Oh, so many bills to pay
Will I ever be in credit?
Will a fortune come my way?

Chorus 2:
Well there’s hope in the Saviour
He has riches stored away
Yes, there’s hope in the Saviour
If you turn to Him today

A class of children and a madman
Faced each other yesterday
For reasons best known to the madman
He took their sweet young lives away

Chorus 3:
But there’s still hope in the Saviour
He will wipe each tear away
Yes, there’s hope in the Saviour
Turn to Him, there is no other way

Sadness is a feeling caused by living
A fallen life weighed down by sin
The problem seems too big to handle
Where on earth do I begin?

Chorus 4:
There is hope in the Saviour
If you trust and obey
Yes, there’s hope in the Saviour
If you turn, to him, today

Repeat last line twice

Lucy

© Steve Gascoyne

For the prayers I never prayed
And the tears I couldn’t cry
And the time I never gave
Cos I couldn’t find the time

And I saw you sitting there
As the tears ran down your face
And I knew I could’ve been
If I only gave

Chorus:
Oh, Lord Jesus, help me be the man you want me to be
I’m trying hard, Lord. Don’t leave it all up to me
This road is long, so hard, so why can’t we?
So help me to be me

I remember your sister
And the joy she gave to me
And I think it’s so sad
If we don’t remember her name

Oh, Lucy, I love you
And I won’t forget your name
I can’t wait till Jesus comes
And I’ll see you again

The road is long and winds up so steep
It falls down, down, until you don’t know where you are
Just about keep it together, until suddenly,
it all breaks down
And you’re left there
And Jesus carries you through

Solo

We all feel like we’ve had it so bad
All the tears, the hurt and the pain
But in truth I know you’ve had it much worse
Can you ever learn to trust again?
It isn’t always going to be like this
These tears will be wiped away
The one’s cried deep down inside
That never see the light of day

Walk Away

© Steve Gascoyne

Walk away, you’re on your own, all alone
If it wasn’t meant to be, just walk away
Do you think of me? Do you cry?
If it wasn’t meant to be, just walk away

Chorus:
I sit down on my bed and pick up my old guitar
and play the song, the song I wrote for you
And even though I know you won’t come back
It doesn’t seem to want to change the fact
That I still love you

Verse 2
Are you sitting there, by the phone, alone
If it wasn’t meant to be, just walk away
There is pain inside, so deep
If it wasn’t meant to be, just walk away

Repeat chorus

It was the letter that you wrote
Telling me that we were through
I carried it round for years and years
Until I threw it on the fire
I watched it burn, like my heart
Until there was nothing left
Then I was finally free

You and me, hand in hand, on the sand
Walking until the sun goes down

Unemployment Blues

© Steve Gascoyne

Down and out, ain’t got no job
There ain’t no work around here
My mind is mixed up, going mad
I just don’t know what to do

Chorus:
Do, do, what do I do?
I don’t know, let’s look at you
You give me some advice, but that’s no good
Because – it don’t help me, it don’t help me none
It don’t help me, it don’t help me none

Verse 2:
Went for a job the other day
There was no work, anyway
People seem to think I’m fooling around
Ain’t nothing to be found
Do you know what it’s like to be out of work?
Do ya?

Down and out, ain’t got no job
Just no work around here
My mind is mixed up, going mad
I just don’t know what to do

Chorus

Repeat verse 2

Don’t Throw Your Love Away – Part 2

© Paul Jackson 1995

How could you throw away something so cheaply?
I’m standing here and the tears are neatly
Falling away, falling away
You threw your love away, you threw your love away

Talked ‘til I was blue, but you didn’t listen
You’re picking up the pieces, ‘cos you had to kiss him
Melting away, melting away
You threw your love away, you threw your love away

(Bass solo)

You don’t know the hurt that I’ve been hiding
I’m willing to forgive, but I don’t take it lightly
Hurting today
You threw your love away, you threw your love away

There’s choices to be made, can’t you see my position
I’m hanging on the line, I await your decesion
Fading away, fading away
You threw your love away, you threw your love away

(Guitar solo to fade out)

Reap What You Sow

© Steve Gascoyne

Chorus:

You reap what you sow
Yes, you reap what you sow
And don’t you think that you can get away
Your first blood has been spilt
It’s crying out this nation’s guilt
It’s about time somebody let you know
You can hide it with lies
You can remove it from your eyes
But you’re still going to reap what you sow

In China, they murder an infant
Just because this little baby was a girl
But now see what becomes
When they try to marry off their sons
You’re going to reap what you sow!

In Brazil they have found a new solution
To combat the problem of rising crime
They send out thugs with guns
To go and murder little ones
I tell you, they’re going to reap what they sow

You reap what you sow
Yes, you reap what you sow
And don’t you think that maybe you can get away
Your first blood has been spilt
It’s crying out this nation’s guilt
It’s about time somebody let you know
You can hide it with lies
You can remove it from your eyes
But you’re still going to reap what you sow

This ain’t happening in some distant nation
The blood is flowing down England’s streets
You ain’t got to look further
Than your own son and daughter
I tell you, we’re going to reap what we sow!

Fathers abandon un-named children
And a baby is no longer safe in its mother’s womb
As innocence is murdered
So our freedom can be furthered
Oh! We’re going to reap what we sow!

You see, something must change
Something needs to be said
Now that over four million lie dead
And nobody remembers
There’s no cross to mark their grave
These martyrs pro-choice
For the freedom they gave
And I want to shout ‘Murder!’
And don’t believe the lie
For us to have safe sex
These children must die!

Steve G: “This song addresses a certain smugeness that these things could not happen in the UK. We think about the Germans that tried to pretend that the death camp outside their town was not there.

“People say, “Not here, not on my watch”

People say, “Not here, not on my watch”, but it has happened, and continues to do so. A genocide. Six million murdered babies. By murdered I mean would still be alive to day if nobody had stepped in to stop them being born. They were alive – and someone stopped their life.”

Middle 8:
If I ever get the chance
I could make a fine romance with you
If you ever needed me
Think of all the things that we could do…Oooohh!

How could you throw away something so cheaply?
I’m standing here and the tears are neatly
Falling away, falling away
You threw your love away, you threw your love away

Final chorus:
You threw your love away x4
Don’t throw, your love, away……….you threw your love away, oh yeah!

Lonely Road

© 1999 Steve Gascoyne

You come home late, it’s Friday night
Go to bed, no, that doesn’t seem right
You’ve had some drink, but you still want more
Stay up and watch a film you’ve never heard of before

Chorus:

You’re going down, down, down, down, down, down, down that lonely road
(x2)

It’s been so long since you felt a touch
You’ve had some dreams – now you don’t want much
You used to think of a family
But now you say “That’s not for me!”

Chorus: (and into….)

So far gone, you can’t turn round…
You’ve just got to keep on heading down…

Open up your heart, open up your heart (x2)
And dream the dreams you used to dream
And don’t think anything good could ever happen to you
Your life could change so quick that you don’t know what to do

Verse 3:
Seven years later I’ve come to say
I left the broad road for the narrow way
Jesus said it’s not an easy ride
But He gives me a joy I just can’t hide…

I’m going to praise, praise, praise, praise, praise, praise, praise the Name of the Lord!
